Back to School

fallThis time of year is one of my favorites; the weather is cooler, the leaves start to fall, and pumpkins are decorating the neighborhood. And of course, the kids head back to school to tackle new challenges and learn new things. Even more than spring, it is a time of beginnings.

My daughter started high school this year. I marvel at her development as she is learning a new building, being introduced to new subject areas like geometry and biology, engaging in new physical activities in gym and building relationships with teachers and classmates.

As we age, I think we need to continue to push ourselves toward beginnings, to learning new things and trying new experiences. School set us up with right idea, but I find that it’s not always as easy in the “real world” to continue in that direction. We need to consciously make an effort to continue to learn new things in the areas of relationships and our physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

What could you do right now to stretch outside of your usual? What new class or subject could you study to give yourself a new beginning this fall?
