An emergent property, simply defined, is the result of energy having an experience. In other words, when energy has an experience, an emergence occurs. Leadership is an emergent property of integrated energies – and therefore leadership is energy having an experience!
This is the intention behind all of what we do at Emergent with and for leaders, teams and organizations. As human development professionals, we understand that adult learners are constantly looking for ways to utilize their time and energy with the intention of making an impact on what matters most. New leaders and mid-level managers and supervisors have a unique position in most organizations – they are managing “up, down and side-to-side,” which requires the ability to master the five fundamentals we have strategically chosen to include in our Emergent Leader program.
This post is the first of a series in which we will explain one Emergent Leader fundamental and share the strategic focus behind each. The information is for any leader seeking to develop their leadership more effectively, and while you are welcome to register for a public offering – where leaders from many organizations come together to network and learn and develop across a community of leaders – we also deliver the program at an organizational level for current and emerging leaders. That said, the intention of this blog series is to give you sage-level information here on our blogs that you can immediately put to good use and effective application in your leadership.
As an introduction, the five fundamentals of an Emergent Leader are: Leadership Presence, Communicating Clearly, Leadership Agility, Building Teams, and Driving Performance. These five focus areas build on one another to assist in developing a holistically effective leadership strategy through exposure to leadership philosophies, theoretical constructs and pragmatic tools and practices to experiment with through real-life application and review.
And speaking of real-life application, Emergent Leader participants benefit from four 1-hour 1:1 coaching meetings with an Emergent Leadership coach. These coaching meetings allow the participant to personalize their experience by working on their real-life leadership challenges and developing skills by reinforcing the five workshop fundamentals. Our program – unique in its field – provides group and individual learning combined with in-depth coaching support to make the sustainability and applicability of the training both accessible and real.
