10 CORE DISCIPLINES OF A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER
Discipline 2: The Transformational Leader accepts what is.
The effective leader does not beat herself up. She accepts all aspects, traits, quirks, etc., of herself and others. She doesn’t take things personally, and doesn’t look at anything that happens as more than it actually is. Instead she accepts that what has just occurred has occurred as it did, and doesn’t catastrophize any experience or action. This doesn’t mean that she can’t be goal oriented and work toward making things the way she wants them to be. But the transformational leader prefers the outcome they seek rather than being emotionally attached to it. Accepting what is mitigates resistance and maintains the positive energy necessary to persevere.
On a scale of 1 (not at all) to 10 (completely), how well do you believe you currently practice the Discipline of Acceptance?
