A situation involving exposure to danger
Recently a friend asked, “What risks are you planning to take over the next year?”
I thought about it for a moment and realized this was one of the most profound queries I’d had in a long time. Planning to take risks seems counterintuitive to my safety-seeking personality, and yet my history convinces me that without risk I may slide into mediocrity and boredom. I don’t know what risks I’ll take this next year yet, but I know I will identify the necessary and optimal risks, make calculated movements and decisions, and then trust my instincts and training as the adventure continues.
As we near the holidays and a new calendar year, I want to encourage you to ask yourself and others this question – and listen closely as people allow you to explore their dangerous plans.
What risks are you planning to take?
